So I long forgot about this blog! I meant to write about this little mini getaway we took late June 2022!
Basically we went because Booking.com said I would become Genius level 3 FOR LIFE If I had 2 more bookings before the end of june. I believe it has to be like 15 stays through them in 2 years to get that status and I wasn’t about to lose it!
We enjoy awesome free room upgrades and perks through them. I booked 2 separate stays in the same place to make it happen and since we are currently living in Albuquerque it was a short 1 hour drive.
Las Polomas Inn is absolutely charming and very dog friendly. Our beagle puppy Sherlock got to come on his first weekend away adventure.

They checked us in and were very friendly! They gave us a little doggy bag with a small dog toy, poop bags (which they also had around the property) and little milkbone treats!
Unfortunately Booking said our room was ready at 10am on an email. We got there around 1 or two and had to wait an hour. There clearly is some sort of breakdown in communication going on. They did give us a free upgrade to a 2 room suite so we were happy about that! It pays to do the genius program with booking (and to always be super nice to the staff).

It was pouring rain. They finally said our room was ready. We got there and it wasn’t we waited under a tiny awning for our very angry hotel maid to finish our room (another 45 minutes) I was pretty upset to be honest because Sherlock was pretty confused/distressed and we had been made to wait/given disinformation twice now.

That was the worst part of the trip though. We finally got let into our amazing room #6 which was very cozy, romantic, and traditionally new mexico southwest style little semi-detached bungalows. It had a little adobe fireplace, a kitchenette, a mini fridge etc. We spent a good deal of the weekend cancelling our plans on patios since it rained so much! (The purple giant umbrellas the place provided us with were absolutely lovely and a lifesaver during our stay).

We ordered in, watched movies, and had a cozy weekend en famille! Day 2 it didn’t rain as much and we went and walked around the square and did a little shopping in the open air markets.

We met our hilarious and gracious friend Melissa Chambers out for lunch at the larger restaurant in La Fonda. They accommodated us with a table just outside of the doors in the hallway which was gorgeous. Lunch was absolutely delicious. We feel so kindred with Melissa and she is such a dog person that this was the highlight of this trip! Catch Melissa on Big Sky as Madge the eye rolling sheriff, and The Witches of Wayfair to name a few. She’s one of the good ones. Great to her fellow actors like us too.

People in the hallway all stopped to pet Sherlock and give him massive amounts of attention. He is truly taking his Emotional Support Dog thing seriously. People grew up with beagles or missed their family dogs on vacation, and he patiently loved on anyone who stopped to pet him.
My other favorite thing on the trip was having a margarita on the patio of the St. Francis Hotel. which is very upscale. We stayed here on a recent vacation and highly recommend it. It was a very convenient walk to nearly everything in the square. It even pumps sweet hay smells in the elevator for that monastery vibe. They have a killer smoked margarita, but I preferred the classic one!

Santa Fe all but shuts down in the rain and it’s hard to figure out where to go when that happens (especially with a dog)! And we ran into so many people in the same position. We ended up there, and it was wonderful. Although the bar bar was packed, the service was still wonderful and not too slow for being super busy. The cool vagabond couple next to me ordered the marrow which looked amazing!

All in all it was a lovely stay and we would go there again. I would say our hotel is perfect for families even for reunions. It was quiet and private. It was close to the action but I would recommend having a car for this location. It’s also great for couples who want a quieter and more relaxing stay! (And of course dog owners)!
