I know it’s been a suuuuuper long time since I blogged. So much has happened since including an out of state move AND getting married etc. Will write about other adventures later. For now I want to get to our Atlanta trip since it’s still fresh.
We had such a great time in ATL and in the surrounding areas. We got a lot in, but were very very busy scoping out the market for film purposes as well so we were very busy looking at neighborhoods and vibe while we were there as well as touristing.
DAY 1: Marietta and Roswell
We started out grabbing our rental car at Advantage at the airport. We giggled when they gave us a teeny kia for our rental. . . how is that ‘or similar’ to a Nissan sedan? Oh well, it ended up being great for parallel parking in tight historical areas. It didn’t however fit all of our luggage in the trunk. That’s what backseats are for eh?
We went nice but affordable hotel for the first leg of our trip to put our money into activities and food etc. We weren’t spending much time in the room for this part. We stayed at the Drury Inn and Suites Marietta. It was clean and adequate but the staff was absolutely exceptional. It would be a good affordable option for a family. We are a bit fussy. The room was small and either too hot or too cold. The bed was uncomfortable for us both. It bounced with every teeny turn over. The room was a bit too small for us. We did really really appreciate the good sized mini fridge. We used it a lot. Got some groceries at Kroger right before check in. Mostly snacks and bottled water, diet coke, and milk for Syd’s tea. We do think the pool area was great and the food looked decent even though we didn’t eat there. Again not really what we usually go for but would be great for families on a budget. I the pool and hot tub had been open a little later. It always shut right around the time we got back at 10pm. Syd did use the teeny gym. Gotta keep fit right? The best part of staying here was the front desk staff. They were so friendly and professional. Stacy and Randy you guys rock.
After getting settled into the room, we headed straight for the Gone with the Wind Museum. We got our tickets ahead of time on Groupon. $9 for us both. First of all the city made them close up their main gates. There’s no signage. We got pretty lost walking around. Our gps was a bit off. Here’s what you do. . . Go into the Hilton entrance and turn right at the columned conference center. Head as far right to the farthest corner of the parking lot as possible and park as close as you can to the iron gates which will be open. The building pictured behind us is the museum. It’s a short walk if you park where we said. We guessed and hoofed it a little farther in the heat than we would have liked to. You’re welcome. Ha ha.
The woman working there was lovely. You can go through relatively quickly. We made it in an hour before closing but it wasn’t busy when we went. We were the only ones there. If you love history, old hollywood, or the movie Gone With the Wind it’s worth seeing. I especially loved all of the old telegrams, costumes, and original scripts. Hot tip, don’t skip the gardens out back or the gift shop. Also, go in the morning if possible, so you can stroll the gardens without wanting to ‘swoon’ from the heat if you go in the hot months!

After that we were naturally hungry and hot. We googled “Healthy Food” in Marietta and found the
Good Kitchen + Market in Marietta. It was cool, charming, in a cute 1900’s house and the AC was lovely. We were of course still adjusting to the hot and humid weather. Now I can’t remember the name of our server but he was adorable and super super accommodating. If you are a vegan, gluten free, are a health nut, or have other dietary restrictions, this would be a great place to eat in Marietta!
Syd (pescatarian for health reasons) got the fish special. I got the steak with veggies and faux mashed ‘potatoes’ which were cauliflower I think. . . Both were absolutely delish. Syd really liked their local sparkling water too. We ate somewhat early due to time zone adjusting around 5:30 there was no wait.

We ran around the Marietta Square after dinner. It’s so charming. It reminds me of a lot of my favorite places. Savannah, New Orleans, Madison Wisconsin, and Austin TX. Just charm charm charm. . . We took a couple of pics, pet a couple of dogs, and chatted with the very friendly locals. It’s like a much hotter Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girl’s reference). It’s so pretty it almost looked like a Hollywood back lot.

We then popped over to Historical Roswell GA which is so much our speed we could be locals. The funny part is that we accidentally went on a super busy Thursday festival night which we were told runs every Third Thursday night from April through October near Canton street. We got there around 8pm. It was PACKED! Live music around every corner. Food trucks, vendors, artists, swag, etc. So much fun. We walked around for a bit and grabbed a drink. It was incredible, but a bit ‘covid’ crowded and loud and we were still a bit jet lagged so we enjoyed it for a bit then headed back. People of Roswell we love ya. We watched true crime shows at the hotel and crashed.

Us at the Thursday festival in Roswell called Alive in Roshttps://aliveinroswell.comwell. Very lively indeed. A happy accident we ended up here!
