New Orleans day 4: The Move to Marginy, and The Bayou Alligators and all! (September 2018)

Day four. We went back to Cafe Du Mode for coffee and breakfast finally. I really wanted to hear the morning musicians play jazz. We weren’t disappointed. The beignets were amazing. A lovely trumpet player came and serenaded us. We look a bit puffy in the photos because of the vacation eating. Syd and I eat pretty clean on vacation, but we also have our treats. We don’t care though. It’s ok to be human.

we moved to the Marginy district into a really cool and funky tiny Inn above a bar. The amazing manager let us check in early. We were really really early, but we were grateful that Adam let us stash our bags. It’s very old school Inn. You literally check in at the bar downstairs. They even gave us Wooden drink tokens for later. The room was incredible and we immediately felt a presence. There was for sure a male spirit we sensed. Likely a musician. We said hello to him and thanked him for letting us stay at ‘his’ place. We dropped our bags, had a little rest, and were off again to go on the swamp tour.

The Bayou was gorgeous as always. It rained hard all the way out to the swamp land. We really enjoyed it. The depot before the bus was really charming. It was filled with model trains and cool memorabilia. We bought a gorgeous hand painted New Orleans Ornament and a New Orleans Christmas CD after the Bayou. A fun tradition to add one new ornament every year that means something.

How beautiful is this view?
Love on the Bayou

Syd was a bit nervous to see alligators. I had to assure him that they wouldn’t get too close to the boat. We had a lovely time through and through. I even held a baby alligator this time. I was too scared last time I was in New Orleans (Although we were in hysterics when it peed on my Dad). We marveled at the sights and learned a lot about the history of the land, different kinds of wood they built with in the city, the swamp creatures and of course, alligators. Did you know that they have a very low heart rate and can go without eating for a very long time?

After the amazing swamp tour, bus ride back, and lyft back to the hotel we had a little dinner and some rest. I had ordered a dress from Australia at Retrospecd’ which is where the alligator dress above is from too. After a comedy of errors they sent the new cut (that they weren’t out of to our old hotel). We went for it the next day!

Gumbo Ya Ya!

We were cream crackered (aka knackered) aka exhausted when we got back to the hotel. We took a disco nap and headed out like crazy people for our last big night on the town. I’ll give the deets on those in the next post. Man, NOLA was jam packed! To be continued. . .
