You would not believe the patience it took to get this. We nearly went batty! but it was #worthit

We got a TON of great suggestions for San Diego. It was really hard to choose just one adventure. The stupid train (Awesome train) Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner was getting maintenance done on the track. Instead of being on the train one hour, and the bus for 2, we opted to drive. It ended up working out well, because the safari park was a bit of a haul outside of the city. It took about 30 minutes in traffic which made our drive home only 2.5 miles instead of 3.

So off to the Safari park we went. Do circle like a vulture, because after Syd’s 5K and with me in ballet flats parking in lot 13 and walking up that steep hill was brutal. Try to get closer. . .

That big balloon we saw when we drove in and hoped we could go up in . . . we found out we could!! We got in around 1:30. We decided to walk around without planning too too much. We decided to go up in the balloon, on the tram, and hopefully see the cheetah run. We stopped at every animal’s area that we passed by.

We got lucky because the flamingos flew right when we were watching and when happened to be taking video. Thanks guys.

The more and better the shrimp, the pinker the flamingos get. The pinker the flamingo the more viable the mate. It means that they have resources. Date the flamingo with the good shrimp! Cool huh?

We meandered towards the balloon. and got a big drink with a panda on it and free refills. It is worth it if you will get 2-3 drinks. It had a handle. It will be well loved.

Here’s a little secret. Syd and I are mildly afraid of heights (at least unstable ones) but the balloon was really not scary. It was tethered to the ground and really isn’t hot air, but on a pulley system. It was pretty stable. The hills all around were so gorgeous. It almost looked like the hills of Italy or Scotland! We loved seeing the elephants and the lions from up high.

We then hit up the tram to go on the safari portion. Lots of animals and it was fun. The best part was a baby antelope bounding. Boing, boing, boing! It was absolutely adorable. I can’t do it justice. Unfortunately the video I took was too far. Here are some Giraffes.

We ate dinner at a little spot. I had a wrap. (And some mini doughnuts thanks Babe). and Syd had salad. the food was just ok, and they couldn’t really make it healthier or leave things off (pre-made). People with dietary restrictions might want to bring food or do some serious research.

I’ll let the pics speak for themselves. And the sunset driving home was the most gorgeous pink and purple sky.

Thanks for following our adventures! Until next time, Cheers!
